Robert Moore was close to going under the magic 20-minute mark as he took victory in the 10-mile Alton CC time trial on Saturday.
The rain held off but it was still hard going with a strong southwesterly wind to the turn. However, riders had a nice tail wind for the return.
Moore, representing Nuun-Sigma Sport-London RT, topped the standings with a time of 20.07. Pure Motion CC’s Chris Loake was second in 20.35, 28 seconds off the pace of the winner.
Stephen Williams of A3crg placed third in 20.39 and was the fastest veteran on the day. He also headed the winning team, combining with women’s winner Angela Carpenter and Drew Hosie to total 1:06.10.
Carpenter completed in 22.50 to win the women’s category and was fastest vet on standard in the 40-49 age bracket with +5.53.
Phil Watts of North Hampshire RC was fastest 50 to 59-year-old on standard with +6.31 and in the 60 to 69 category it was Jerry Bromyard of A3CRG in +4.51.
Raymond Dare of Kingston Phoenix took the over 70s on standard prize with an impressive +7.07. Mary Corbett (Sotonia CC) and Stephen Whitewick (Velorefined Aerosmiths) were the quickest tandem team in 21.49.
