Rix and Triplow victorious in Zak Carr Memorial 25
James Rix and Susan Triplow were the fastest male and female as API Metrow staged the Zak Carr Memorial 25-mile time trial in Cambridgeshire on Saturday.
Rix, the 41-year-old Crawley Wheelers rider from Haywards Heath, clocked 49.34 to secure the win and take the Zak Carr Memorial Trophy.
Meanwhile, Essex Roads CC rider Susan Triplow covered the distance in 59.18 to win the women’s category by 24 seconds and step up from third spot in last year’s event.
While the weather was warmer and sunny for the 2017 edition of the event, there was an unfavourable wind which meant most riders were several minutes slower than the times they have done on this course previously.
It was the latest in a string of good results for Rix. Last month he was victorious in the Bec CC 10, as well as the Southern Counties CU 10 and Norwood Paragon CC 25. And in April, he was the winner of the Catford CC 10.
He took the win in the 2017 edition of the event by 56 seconds from Peter Lawrence (Team Bottrill), while Kevin Tye (VeloRefined Aerosmiths) had to settle for third spot once again, another 17 seconds off the pace.
And similarly for Triplow, it was another victory added to a growing list of 2017 wins. The 50-year-old from Braintree has also won the VTTA 50 earlier this month, as well as being the fastest female at the ECCA 25-mile Championships on the same course, where she clocked 57.39 on a better day.
She has also secured victories in the Victoria CC 10.2-mile TT, as well as the VC Norwich 25, and was second in the ECCA 10-mile championships and Lea Valley CC 25 earlier in the season.
Third last year in this same event, Triplow beat Danuta Tinn (Maidenhead and District CC) to victory this time, while Julia Freeman (Easterley RC) was five seconds back in third.
And last year’s event winner, Anna Dearing (Chelmer CC) had to settle for fourth this time, while similarly Katie Crowe (Dulwich Paragon) dropped from second in 2016 to fifth this time.
