Rob Young was the overall winner at the Victoria CC event near Ugley, Essex on Saturday, with Julia Freeman taking victory in the women’s competition.

The event that starts and finishes just outside Saffron Walden took place over an unconventional 10.2 mile distance and was round two of the VTTA points league.

In the men’s race it was Young who came out on top, blitzing the field in a time of 21.59 and registering a comfortable winning margin of 22 seconds.

Young has been in good form in 2017 with several wins to his name, including victories in round one of the series on the same course back in May in the individual and 3-up disciplines.

Matt Steel (Shaftesbury CC) and Philip Murrell (Finsbury Park CC) completed the podium, Steel 30 seconds quicker than his rival with a time of 22.21.

In the women’s competition, veteran Julia Freeman was equally comfortable in her victory for Easterley Road Club.

She was the only female rider to dip under the 25 minute mark, stopping the clock in 24.58 to win by 35 seconds.

Freeman’s time was nearly 30 seconds quicker than her time in round one in when she finished second in May on the same course.

Mary Bower was second for Momentum Cycles RC with Lauren Kirchel (Chelmer CC) coming in third.

There were 2-up and 3-up competitions taking place on Saturday too, with the pair of Thomas Platts and Andy Sewell taking victory in the 2-up race.

The Aspire Velo Racing Team duo won by over a minute and a half from Peter Tibbitts and Andrew Walden (Ford CC) with a time of 22.18.

Meanwhile, the trio of James Johnson, David Scott and Adrian Trott (Welwyn Wheelers) claimed victory in the 3-up category in a winning time of 24.32.
