Colin Ward’s excellent early season form continued as he claimed the win at the Eastern Counties CA 25 in Newmarket on Sunday, whilst Susan Triplow was the fastest woman.
A field of 126 riders completed the 25-mile course, starting and ending in Newmarket going along the A11 and A14.
Ward was one of the last starters, and he justified his seeding with victory, stopping the clock in a time of 48.51.
The 39-year-old from Basildon made it five wins from five open time trials since the start of April with this result, adding it to last week’s win in the Maldon and District CC 50.
The Essex Roads man had a margin of victory this time of 10 seconds, David McGaw taking second place for Cambridge CC who has also been in good form this year.
Daniel Northover (Finsbury Park CC) was a minute and a half behind McGaw in third, completing the top three, whilst fifth place Rob Young was the first veteran on the day.
In the women’s competition, Susan Triplow completed the double for Essex Roads CC with victory on Sunday.
Her time of 57.39 gave the veteran the fastest female prize, and tied 60th place in the field overall.
Triplow was over a minute ahead of her nearest rival, Verity Smith of Stowmarket and District CC who finished second, whilst Deborah Coyle (VC Elan) completed the women’s top three.
