Stuart Travis and Susan Semple were the fastest men and woman respectively in the Walsall Roads CC 10-mile time trial, staged on the K48/10 course near Weston in Staffordshire.
Travis, the Team Bottrill rider who is 32 and from Coventry, clocked 20.11 to win by 33 seconds from last year’s winner Paul Westwood (Lichfield City CC), while John Lucock (Police Sport UK) took third, leaving David Kiernan (Lutterworth Cycle Centre RT) to settle for fourth by seven seconds having placed second and third in the last two years.
Meanwhile, 51-year-old Susan Semple covered the course in 25.45. The Born to Bike rider from Stafford, who was third in the same race in 2016, took the win in challenging conditions despite being 1-45 slower.
It was the latest in a string of strong performances for Semple, who was second in the Royal Sutton CC 10 a fortnight earlier. And in April she placed second woman in the Veterans TTA National 15-mile Championships, as well as fourth woman in the VTTA National 10 Championships.
Travis, too, has enjoyed some great form recently. He won the Bromsgrove Olympique CC 10 last weekend on 19.39, while he clocked 19.03 to win the Royal Sutton CC event the week before that with an impressive 19.03.
His fastest 10-mile time of the year so far came in the City RC Hull 10 on April where he covered the V718 course in 18.24 for fifth spot, while among his other 2017 wins are the Team Sales Engine 10, VC Sevale 10 and the Lea Valley CC 25.
