It’s fairly common for a rider to get two wins in two events over the course of a weekend, but Rob Young (Team Vision Racing-Silverhook) went one better when he got two wins from two rides in the same event on the same day, winning both the solo and the three-up as Victoria CC staged their annual 10.2-mile time trial near Wendens Ambo in Essex on Saturday.

Young teamed up with Dean Lubin and Andrew Page in the three-up event, clocking 22-04 for the course from north of Wendens Ambo, up to Stump Cross and back down.

Their time was good enough for the win by just five seconds from the Team Sales Engine trio of Sam Hayes, Steve Robinson and Simon Doyle who were winners on the same course last July at another Victoria CC event.

But Young wasn’t content with his morning’s work yet after crossing the line in the three-up at a little past 8.30am.

He had also entered the solo event, and around 45 minutes later he was back with the starter, and blasted round the course again in a time of 21-31, giving him the win by 12 seconds from East London Velo’s Wayne Crombie, while another ELV rider, Jack Steven completed the podium in third, another 41 seconds adrift.

There was also a healthy entry in the women’s event, with Susan Triplow (Essex Roads CC) the fastest of 16 entries. She clocked 24.34 to beat Julia Freeman (Easterley RC) by 52 seconds, while Mary Bower (Momentum Cycles RC) was third.

Triplow was a non-starter on the same course last July when Freeman clocked 24.34 to win  by seven seconds from Bower, while Freeman and Bower were first and second on the same course last August, while Triplow rode the two-up that day alongside Bower, and they were the fourth fastest pairing overall, as well as best female duo.

Other categories this time saw Velo Schils Interbike pair Simon Daw and Colin Lewin clock 22.43 to win the veterans’ two-up by 26 seconds from Antony Birt and Andy Kennedy (Ipswich BC).

Lewin and Daw won on the same course in Victoria CC’s 10.2 last August, when they were just five seconds slower.

The all ages two-up was won by David Daniels and Karl Willis of Herts Rouleurs RC) in 21-42, 27 seconds ahead of Aspire Velo RT duo Thomas Platts and Andy Sewell.
