John Archibald (Pro Vision Cycle Clothing) and Jackie Field (CC Ashwell) both took convincing victories in the Jason Macintyre Memorial, as the Knight Composites Classic TT Series moved to Scotland for round four.
The 17.8-mile circuit of Loch Leven presented riders with a challenging course which featured several hills, but with conditions reasonable and scenery beautiful it made for a successful trip north of the border.
Glasgow-based 26-year-old Archibald clocked 38.40 to take the win by 51 seconds from round three winner and top espoir Jack Rebours (Caesarean CC Jersey), while Chris Smart (GTR) was third, clocking 41.07.
Meanwhile Jackie Field (CC Ashwell) was fastest female, and also wrapped up her overall series win in the veteran women’s category too. The 52-year-old from near Cambridge clocked 47.05 to win the women’s category by 34 seconds from Lynsey Curran (Dooley’s RT).
“I thought it would be nice to be on the podium, but I don’t know too much about some of the riders who have travelled up from the south so I didn’t know how it would go,” said Archibald.
“It was a rolling course, but the hills never lasted too long so you could do it all on the big ring. It was wet in the morning, but by the time I rode it had stopped, but it was a bit damp on the roads.”
And fastest female Field said: “It’s one of the nicest time trials I’ve ever done, but it was hard work. The views are lovely up here, and it was well worth the eight-hour drive to get here from Cambridge! I think it’s nice to bring in other people from this end of the country.
“I was hoping for a top three finish, but I wasn’t sure at all. I think I may be the only woman here who’s not from Scotland, so I didn’t know much about the other riders.”
In other categories Peter Nicholls (Race Hub) was quickest veteran with 40.52 and David Hargreaves (North Lancs RC) was the fastest veteran on target time and the fastest junior was Adam Robertson (Verulam CC) who clocked 42.48.
Jason Macintyre’s wife Caroline was on hand to present winners trophies that she has donated, in memory of her late husband Jason, the three-time British and Scottish time trial champion and multiple record holder who died after a collision with a van while out training in 2008.
