Simon Beldon and Kirsty Smith were both comfortable winners at the Yorkshire Cycling Federation 25-mile event on Saturday.

The course sees the riders start and finish in Topcliffe, North Yorkshire, taking in the A169 and the A19 going anti-clockwise around Thirsk, a route they complete twice.

Veteran rider Beldon (SSLL Racing Team) was the penultimate competitor to start in the 121-strong men’s field, and stopped the clock in an impressive time of 51.01.

This was good enough for a winning margin of a sizeable 58 seconds over teammate Joel Wainman.

Beldon adds the win to his success at the Featherstone RC 10 as well as his victory in the tandem competition at the Yorkshire CF 10 last month.

Second-placed Wainman had a finishing time of 51.59, a three place and 39 second improvement upon his 2016 performance on the same course.

Duncan Mullier (Harrogate Nova) also improved three places from last year’s event, his time of 52.46 saw him complete the top three placings.

Kirsty Smith (Team Swift) was in a class of her own in the women’s competition, the only rider to dip under the one hour mark for the 25-mile course.

She improved on her time in the 2016 edition of the race by over two minutes, stopping the clock on 59.04 for a victory by one minute 15 seconds.

Vicky Jowett (Albarosa CC) was second whilst Fiona Sharp (York Cycleworks) completed the top three, 18 seconds further back.

Also in action were there 2016 Paralympic Games gold medal tandem of Steve Bate and Adam Duggleby, who clocked an impressive 46.30 time.
