Sebastian Dickson (University of Cambridge) and Molly Patch (University of Birmingham) took their respective titles in the British University & Colleges 10-mile Championships.

Dickson’s time of 19 minutes and 29 seconds in less than perfect conditions was enough to give him a three-second victory in the men’s category.

Meanwhile Patch used her local knowledge of Oxfordshire to set a 22.02 which gave her victory by 20 seconds over team-mate Hannah Payton in the women’s event.

A deceptive cross-wind met riders who competed for the national honour on the out and back A420 course passing Kingston Bagpuize.

Dickson led a University of Cambridge charge which saw them place three men in the top four places, separated by less than 30 seconds.

The 21-year-old from Kent who also took victory in the Lee Valley CC 2-up took victory from Matt Langworthy (Imperial College London), who clocked 19.32.

Taking bronze was Dickson’s team-mate John Mulvey finishing in 19.47.

Patch, 21, from Middlesex, paced herself to perfection to clinch victory from Payton’s 22.24, with Mathilde Paul (St George’s, University of London) taking bronze a further three seconds back.

One of the favourites Anna Morris (Loughborough University) saw her title hopes dashed due to a puncture.

“I had done a lot of preparation for the event and my auntie lives on the course so I know it well,” said Patch.

“I aimed for a 22-minute ride or under and targeted a power at what I knew I could do. It was a good day out for the team with Hannah getting silver and we had both worked hard towards it.

“For the rest of the season I’m hoping to get a ride on the V718 and to go sub-21 minutes. I’m also hoping to back this ride up at the Bucs 25-mile Championships.”
