Luke Clarke (TMG Horizon CT) won the Sid Latchford memorial time trial, staged over a 21.5-mile course in Hertfordshire by Hemel Hempstead CC on Sunday.

The 28-year-old from Milton Keynes bagged his first win of the season when he clocked 51.05 for the F11/22 course, which took riders from Great Gaddesden up to Dagnall before skirting around Whipsnade Zoo, heading up to the fringes of Dunstable before heading back down south west to Beacon Hill, back to Dagnall and returning to the finish in Great Gaddesden.

His time gave him the win by just 12 seconds with last year’s winner Michael Broadwith (Arctic Tacx RT) narrowly behind in second, while Geir Robinson (Regents Park Rouleurs) was third. Third last year, Clarke improved by 1-19 to take the win in the 2017 renewal of the event.

There was a healthy entry of women in the event too, and fastest female was Helen Boatman (Team Milton Keynes) who clocked 1:00.50 to take the win by just over a minute from 2016 event winner, Hemel Hempstead CC’s Jody Conibear, who was nevertheless 33 seconds quicker than she was in 2016.

And the fastest rider on a road bike was Elliott Joseph (Watford Velo Sport, who covered the course in 54.48 to take 12th spot overall, winning the road bike category by 37 seconds from Josh Curtis (Lovelo Cinelli).

Clarke is next in action in the Icknield Road Club 30-kilometre event on Sunday, April 9, while he then plans to tackle the Welwyn Wheelers hilly 50-kilometre event on Good Friday.
