Thanet Road Club’s Chris Fennell was in great form in the Kent CA 25-mile time trial near Challock, clocking 53.33 and winning by more than a minute in the event on the Q25/8 on Sunday.
Conditions were excellent for a time trial – sunny, reasonably warm with temperatures starting around five degrees and rising to around 12 as the morning went on, and virtually no wind.
Fennell – the reigning Knight Composites Classic Time Trial Series espoir champion – was 1-12 ahead of James Mapley (Blazing Saddles), with Nick Wilson (Rye and District Wheelers) another 55 seconds back in third.
Amey Pritchard (Giant Camden-Team Liv) was fastest woman, clocking 1-03-49 to win by 3-20 from Eva Nyirenda (a3crg), with Barbara Wiles (San Fairy Ann CC) third.
Direct Power Cycling Team’s Fabien Large was fastest of the juveniles with 1.02.41, winning by 46 seconds from Matt Williams (Abellio SFA RT), whose team-mate Reuben Davey was third.
As well as being third fastest overall, Rye and District Wheelers’ Nick Wilson was also the best of the veterans on standard with a plus of 12.59, giving him the win in that category by 1-15 from Thanet Road Club’s Simon Henderson.
Fennell is next in action this weekend when he rides the West Kent RC 10 on Saturday before tackling the Sydenham Wheelers 25 on Sunday.
