Charlton and Shinkins race to New Forest victory
Matthew Charlton (Farnborough and Camberley CC) and Naomi Shinkins (UK Biking-Bournemouth Cycleworks) were the winners as New Forest CC staged their 32-mile Circuit of the New Forest time trial in Hampshire on Sunday morning.
Charlton clocked 1:09.53 to win by more than a minute and a half from James Copeland (Fareham Wheelers), with Ben Boardman of the promoting club third, 1-40 further off the pace.
Fastest female was UK Biking-Bournemouth Cycleworks rider Naomi Shinkins, 34 and from Bournemouth, who clocked 1:29.34, giving her the win by 47 seconds from Sarah Wise (CC Weymouth), while Michelle Walter (Bournemouth Arrow) was third, just five seconds behind Wise.
The event was staged on the P333, but major road works on the approach to Lymington forced organisers to change the course, with the start being in Hordle.
For Charlton, 34, it was not his first win of the 2017 season. He was victorious in the Antelope RT 10 early in March, and placed third in the Farnborough and Camberley CC 10 on March 11.
He will be chasing more victories soon having entered the Bournemouth Arrow 10 on Good Friday, as well as the Farnborough and Camberley 25 on April 22.
For Shinkins, this was her first win – but hopefully not her last. She has entered the CC Weymouth 10 on Easter Sunday, as well as the National 100-mile Championships in July.
