Dean Robson (Northover VT-Rudy Project) took victory in the Gillingham and District Wheelers’ hardriders 19-mile time trial on the U303 near Bruton in Somerset on Saturday.
The prolific time trial rider, who notched up several good wins in 2016, started 2017 in great form, clocking 42.23 for the challenging course which takes riders from Bruton through Bourton, Zeals, Kilmington and North Brewham.
That time gave him victory by 48 seconds from Bath CC rival Rob Pears, while Matt Griffin (Cycology Bikes) was another 30 seconds back in third spot and last year’s runner-up Ben Anstie had to settle for fourth this time with 43.49 despite being 38 seconds quicker than his time of 12 months ago.
In other categories, Nicole Walters (Oldfield Oldboys) was the fastest woman with 50.14, giving her the win in that category by around four and a half minutes from Joanne Jago (Performances Cycles CC).
Returning to time trial action after an absence of three years, Walters has made a good start to the 2017 season. She was second woman in the Severn RC 25 last month, and again was second in Chippenham and District Wheelers’ hardriders 22-mile time trial last week.
She last rode the Gillingham and District Wheelers’ hardriders TT in 2014, but this time she was more than a minute quicker.
