Simon Beldon (SSLL Racing Team) pipped last year’s winner Philip Graves (Nopinz) by just two seconds in the Featherstone Road Club 10-mile time trial on the V910 course near Ferrybridge in West Yorkshire on Sunday.
Beldon, 47 and from Leeds, clocked 21.17 to leave Graves second by two seconds, while third spot went to Richard Sharp (York Cycleworks, who was 50 seconds slower.
The event – which was well supported by riders from near and far – was run off in reasonable conditions, dry for the early starters but with a stiff headwind on the return leg.
Light rain gave the later starters something to contend with as they shadowed the A1 from north of Brotherton, up to Ridge Road’s junction with the A63 and back.
There was also an excellent ride from junior Thomas Booth (Birdwell Wheelers) on a grippy course clocking 23.40, while fastest woman was Debra Charlesworth (Cliff Pratt Racing) with 26.55, giving her victory in that category by more than two minutes from Sharon Clifford (WCS Racing Team).
Espoir Kieran Savage (Team B38-Underpin Racing) just missed out on third place with 22.44, but was the fastest Cat A rider, while Glen Turnbull (Patron) was best Cat B and Phil Pearce (Coveryourcar RT) fastest of the Cat C riders.
