Joshua Williams smashed the course record and headed up a Team Bottrill one-two in the Wrekinsport Hilly 18 event held in Worfield, Shropshire on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, Williams’ team mate George Evans had posted the quickest time and broken the course record by four seconds with 39.47.

But there was even better to come and Williams blazed round the course at incredible pace to stop the clock at 37.59 – an unbelievable 1.48 faster than Evans.

It’s a record that will be very difficult to beat and the conditions were on Williams’ side as apart from a ten-minute spell of rain at around 2.40pm, the course stayed dry.

However, the wind certainly had a part to play, with an unusual easterly wind bowling the riders down the second leg but making life difficult on the stretch of the A442.

The two Team Bottrill riders were far ahead of any of the competition but Victor Chetta took home the third place prize, the Mid Shropshire Wheeler making it round in 43.10.

First veteran rider home was Bryn Davies of Hafren CC, finishing fourth overall in 43.22. The top junior rider was Sam Morris of Revolutions Racing in 46.16.

Pauline Hughes took the women’s prize with the veteran Revolutions Racing rider making it round in 53.00.

Charlotte Chapman of Nova Raiders was second woman in 55.12 and third was Jade Chapman, also of Nova Raiders in 55.30.
