Pears powers to Frome and District 10
Rob Pears (Bath CC) proved quickest in the Frome and District CC 10-mile time trial, staged on the U375 near Nunney in Somerset on Sunday.
The experienced veteran rider from Bristol clocked 20.28 to take victory by exactly half a minute from David Janes (Veloton Team), with Blazing Saddles’ Tom Lane taking third, just six seconds slower than Janes.
The University of Bath CC took a one-two in the women’s category, with Kate Baker’s time of 25.06 giving her the win by 23 seconds from team-mate Amelia Mitchell, while veteran Joanna Knight (Bristol South CC) completed the women’s podium with 25.50 for third.
Bristol South CC took the win in the junior category thanks to Josh Griffiths, whose time of 22.04 gave him the win by 33 seconds from Morgan Curle (Bristol Cycling Development Squad).
While Pears was the fastest veteran on standard, under the one rider one prize rule the awards were split into age groups with the promoting club’s Tony Chapman winning the 40-49 category with a +4.58, while the 50-59 age group prize went to Steve Cottington (Bath CC) with +5.04.
Rick Johnson (Northover VT) was the 60-69 winner with +4.35, while David England (Crabwood CC) was the best over-70 veteran on standard with +2.55.
Finally, the team prize went to the Bath CC with Pears being joined in the winning trio by Ben Skinner and Steve Cottington. Their combined time of 1-03-56 gave them the win by almost two minutes from DRK Racing.
