Sam Wadsley (Poole Wheelers) and Lou Dutch (Synergie Coaching) were the fastest male and female riders as the New Forest CC staged their Boxing Day 10-mile time trial in Hampshire.
Riding his final race before turning senior, talented 18-year-old Wadsley clocked 22.10 – an impressive time for most riders at any time of the year, but especially good for late December - to take the win by 17 seconds from Charley Calvert (Bournemouth Arrow CC), while Neil Mackley (Fareham Wheelers) was third, 42 seconds slower than Wadsley.
In the women’s category, Lou Dutch (Synergie Coaching) was fastest with 25.46, enough for victory by more than a minute and a half from second-placed Lizzy Campbell (Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers) who clocked 27.22, while Campbell’s team-mate Louisa Cooper was third with 27.49.
Wadsley’s win was the last of a successful 2016 season for the youngster. He was second junior in the National Closed Circuit Championships on the Thruxton circuit back in October, and among his other impressive rides are tenth junior in the National 25-Mile Championships.
Back in March he won CC Weymouth’s 10 on the P451 at Broadmayne and in August he clocked 20.03 in the Utag 10 on the P881 near Liphook. In September he scorched round the fast R25/3h course in South Wales, covering the distance in 50.31 to take second spot in the overflow event.
The event featured a tandem category too, and it was Sean Williams (Spysports) and Nicholas O’Hara (3C Cyclexperience) who took the win with 24.33.
