Andy Cunningham won Huddersfield RC’s open hill climb by just five tenths of a second on Sunday.
The All Terrain Cycles rider clocked 3.41.2 compared to Kieran Savage’s (Team B38-Underpin Racing) time of 3.41.7 up the 1,320 yard 1:8 average gradient climb.
Chris Dyke (Manchester BC) finished in third spot slightly further back, recording 3.46.9 on the course near Ripponden in West Yorkshire.
Wrexham RC’s Becky Lewis took the women’s prize with a time of 4.13.0, which was fast enough for eighth place overall.
Dry conditions with a slight tailwind and warmer temperatures towards the top of the climb saw five riders go under four minutes, but Matt Clinton’s 3.27 course record remained safe on the day.
Fourth place for Archie Cross, alongside Savage’s second place won the team prize for Team B38-Underpin Racing, while brother Eugene (SSLL RT), was fifth overall and fastest Junior with a time of 3.55.3. Huw Spacey (Harrogate Nova CC) was fastest Vet, recording 4.30.0.
Cunningham has hit a good run of form late into the hill climb season, with back-to-back wins last weekend in the Nelson Wheelers CC and North Lancs RC hill climbs.
Meanwhile, Savage had a cracking start to the season with early wins in September, followed by a string of recent second places, culminating in winning last weekend’s Drighlington DC hill climb.
