Philip Barnes of Hadleigh Cycling Club powered to victory in the Colchester Rovers 25, breaking the one-hour mark with a time of 59.06 for the E7/25b course near Great Bromley in Essex.
Barnes was the only competitor from the 27 finishers to break the one-hour mark on a course that actually totals 25.3 miles in length.
His winning time was over a minute under that of second place Thomas Platts of Aspire Velo Racing Team.
Owen Wilkins of London Phoenix was the highest placing veteran, a time of 1.00.24 being enough to earn him a place on the podium.
Richard Price, also of London Phoenix, was the fastest rider in the field, but after a restart his time of 55.28 was declared a private time trial and ineligible for the awards.
Sue Triplow (Essex Roads CC) was first of the women with a time of 1.06.44, which was nearly three minutes ahead of her teammate Gill Carter.
