David Allonby (Springfield Financial) was fastest in Wigan Wheelers 25-mile time trial staged on the L2521a near Cockerham in Lancashire on Sunday.

He clocked 54.44 to take the victory by around a minute and a half from Gethin Butler (Preston Wheelers), whose team-mate Jimmy Wright completed the podium in third, another 26 seconds back.

The event almost ground to a halt, with a farmer in Cockerham herding 200 sheep across a road, but luckily it coincided with a four-minute gap between riders, and the last sheep was safely across just before the nearest rider reached them!

As well as second spot, prolific time trial ace and former national 100-mile, 12-hour, 24-hour, Time Trial Series champion and British Best All-Rounder Butler was fastest veteran on standard with a plus of 11.11.

Hope Kerry (Lancashire RC) was the pick of the women with 1:07.26, while Will Kerry was the fastest junior with 1:04.37 and the trike prize went to Alan Shuttleworth (Weaver Valley CC) with 1:21.09.
