Hayley Simmonds (AeroCoach) clinched a clear victory in the RTTC National 25 Championships held in Cambridgeshire on Saturday.
Simmonds who became the first woman to ride under 50 minutes over 25 miles last weekend, found the going tough on the much slower A1 course.
Riders were met by sweltering conditions for the national championship which was run on the rolling A1 out and back course between Peterborough and Huntingdon which was completed twice.
Her time of 54-57 was enough to retain the 25-mile title which she won for the first time last season
“I'm really happy with my time as I have been out a couple of times to look at the course and knew it was possible to post a long 54 minutes or short 55 minutes time,” said Simmonds following the win.
“So to do a long 54 I'm really happy with. Each course has its own challenges and I think they have done resurfacing work on this circuit recently on a 7.5 kilometres stretch which we had to complete four times which really slowed it down.”
Clinching silver medal in the women's event was Tyneside Vagabonds rider Anna Turvey who, despite travelling from the North East of England for the event, clocked a time of 56.31.
Road rider Claire Rose (Podium Ambition Racing) clinched bronze in 57.03 after coming into the event on the back of a busy road race and criterium race season.
The result from the junior title race has been delayed while times and distances involving the top few riders are double checked.
