York Cycleworks rider Richard Sharp proved a convincing winner of the Witham Wheelers 25, staged on the C25/11 course near Silk Willoughby in Lincolnshire on Saturday.

A time of 53.40 was good enough to give 34-year-old Sharp the win by 1-44 from Jim Boyle (Sleaford Wheelers), while Richard Hamblin (also Sleaford Wheelers) took third, 26 seconds further off the pace.

And Sharp’s wife Fiona was also victorious, clocking 1:05.53 to win the women’s category by 1-43 from Lara Thornhill (Witham Wheelers).

Fastest juvenile was Birdwell Wheelers’ Thomas Booth with 1:01.41 for 15th overall, while Geoff Platts (Team Bottrill) was the best veteran on standard. His time of 56.18 gave him fourth overall, while his plus of 14.20 was the best on the day.

Sleaford Wheelers won the team prize with Jim Boyle and Richard Hamblin being joined in the winning trio by Rod Weston.

For Richard Sharp, the win comes after a string of good and improving performances so far this season. He won the Yorkshire CF 10 and Ravensthorpe CC 10 in April, and clocked 52.34 as he placed fourth in the Yorkshire CF 25 that same month.

More recently, he was third in the Bridlington CC 10 in June, and fourth in the City RC 10 on the fast V718 course, where he clocked 19-52.
