Simon Coles (Norwood Paragon CC) took the win in Severn Road Club’s 10-mile time trial staged on the U7b course near Stone in Gloucestershire on Saturday.

The event, which used the undulating A38 course, saw Coles clock 21.06 to take the win by 25 seconds from veteran Bath CC rival Steve Cottington, while the promoting club’s Tom Bertenshaw was another seven seconds back in third.

The fastest female was Emma Angove (Chippenham and Dist Wh) with 26.21, giving her the win by over two minutes from Mary-jane Hutchinson (Bristol South CC).

The event was also the West District heat of the GHS Championship for Under-17s, which was won by Nathan Huynh (Cotswold Veldrijden) with 22-32, 29 seconds faster than Josh Griffiths (VC St Raphael) with Morgan Curle (Bristol Cycling Development Squad) was third, another 26 seconds back.

And fastest of the girls in the GHS event was Freya Thatcher (Liv CC-Epic Coaching) with 28.11.

For Simon Coles, his performance was not just pleasing because of the victory, but also because of the time he clocked.

The Norwood Paragon CC rider has ridden the U7b several times this season, clocking 21.45 in March in the University of Bristol 10, then 21.25 in the Bristol South CC 10 where he placed fourth. But this time, he went 19 seconds quicker to take the win.
