Despite challenging conditions, Chris Fennell (Thanet Road Club) managed to break the course record in his own club’s 25-mile event on the Q25/10 near St Nicholas in Kent.
The winner of the same event last year, Fennell clocked 50.54 to slice 24 seconds from Jonathan Parker’s course record and take victory on the day by more than two minutes.
20-year-old Fennell – who had to settle for second in the Kent CA 100 a fortnight earlier after two punctures – took a convincing win with Dan Tolhurst (PMR at Toachim House) second after having beaten him in the Kent 100.
Veteran Pete Tadros (In Gear-Quickvit RT) placed third and was the best veteran on standard, his time of 53.47 giving him a plus of 13.16, while his son Theo Tadros was the fastest juvenile with 1:05.46.
Emma Lewis (Adalta CC) was the fastest woman with 1:00.03, while Dan Martin (Thanet RC0 was the best junior in fifth spot with 56.12, and he also formed part of the winning team of Thanet RC with Chris Fennell and Simon Henderson completing the trio.
Riders reported a headwind on the outward leg of the course, and along with drizzle at the start there was a heavy downpour in the middle of the race which did little to contribute to hopes of personal best performances.
