In-form John Dewey (Team Bottrill) secured another victory as he proved fastest in the Mid-Shropshire Wheelers 50-mile time trial near Prees in Shropshire on Sunday morning.

The 35-year-old from Dorking in Surrey clocked 1:44.46 to win the event by almost a couple of minutes from Richard Bussell (AeroCoach), while the final spot on the men’s podium went to vet Derek Parkinson, another four minutes back.

Temporary traffic lights on both the original course and the back-up forced organisers to switch the event over onto the nearby D25/18 course, which meant riders covered four laps of a 12.5-mile circuit. But many found the new location to their liking with quieter roads and a more sporting event.

The women’s event was won by Rachel Gorman (Liverpool Phoenix CC) with 2:14.24, giving her the win by more than three minutes from Macclesfield Wheelers’ Ruth Gamwell, while Susan Jeffrey (Wrekinsport CC) was third fastest.

Nigel Haigh (Strategic Lions) was the best veteran on standard with a plus of 25.45, and his actual time of 1:52.07 gave him sixth overall.

Dewey has tasted victory several times so far this season. Among his previous 2016 wins are the Kingston Phoenix CC 10 and Farnborough and Camberley 25 last month, while earlier in the season he was victorious in the High Wycombe CC 10 and a3crg 10.
