National 12-Hour Champion Danny Grieves (GS Metro) secured the Dave Evans Shield with victory in the re-arranged Stockton Wheelers 50-mile time trial on the T502 course in North Yorkshire on Sunday.

Originally scheduled for May 8, the event was postponed on that date because of thick fog, but was re-run today – albeit with a somewhat smaller field.

Grieves clocked 1:41.27 to win by just 13 seconds from Steve Ayres (VC Bradford), while Stone Wheelers’ Ian Holbrook was third, another 15 seconds back.

The day was bright and sunny with very light winds and conditions were good. Quite a few riders recorded personal bests and particular mention must go to Nathan Allatt who at 16 years of age was riding his first 50 mile time trial. He recorded a fantastic time of 1.47.48.

The Dave Evans Shield has been competed for since the 1920s and is Stockton Wheelers’ biggest annual event.
