Chris McNamara (Nuun-Sport) beat his brother Simon McNamara (South Downs Bikes) by 30 seconds in the Sussex Cyclists’ Association 25, staged on the G25/93 near Steyning on Sunday.

The 41-year-old clocked 53.17 to win by 30 seconds from his sibling, while the podium was rounded out by Conall Yates (In Gear-Quickvit RT), just two seconds further off the pace.

It was the latest in a string of good results so far this season for Chris. After winning the Southborough and District Wheelers’ New Year’s Day 10, he also won the VC St Raphael hardriders 16-mile event in February, and was third in both stages of the South Downs Bikes time trials on February 6-7.

And Simon is no stranger to stepping on the podium.

He was second in the Sydenham Wheelers 25 on April 16, and placed third in both the Southern Counties CU 25 last month and the Crawley Wheelers 41 in March.

Gary Brind (South Downs Bikes) clocked 54.21 for fourth spot and joined Simon McNamara in the winning trio in the team prize alongside Kevin Plummer who was eighth.

Laura Bartlett (a3crg) was the fastest female with 1:02.27, which gave her a comfortable win by almost three minutes from joint runners-up, Tamar Vanderhaas (Lewes Wanderers CC) and Amy Forshaw (In Gear-Quickvit) who both clocked 1:05.18.

Brighton Excelsior CC’s Jack Churchill was the pick of the juniors with 1:03.39, while Mike O’Gorman (Worthing Excelsior CC) was top veteran on target time with +12.40, giving him the win by 11 seconds from Christian Yates (East Grinstead CC).
