Cambridge CC’s David McGaw overcame strong northerly winds and occasional rain to take victory in the CC Breckland 10 at Hingham in Norfolk on Saturday afternoon.

The winner of the same event in 2015, 38-year-old McGaw was 49 seconds slower than 12 months previously as the conditions proved challenging for all riders.

A wintry day, there was rain on and off and a mainly crosswind which made bikes with deep-section front rims a handful, such as for second-placed Daniel Bloy (Team Velo Velocity) who had been training through the winter on road bikes and turbo trainers.

The course took riders from Hingham to Watton and back along a B-road which had an unusually good surface.

VC Norwich’s Jen Smart clocked 27.03 to finish as the fastest female, while Chris Nudds (CC Breckland) – who is still recovering from a crash in the Ely and District hardriders TT three weeks ago – edged to victory in the veterans on standard category by just three seconds.
