Description

Event Headquarters:

Due the damage sustained in the Boxing Day floods, the usual HQ, Mytholmroyd Community Centre, cannot be used at the moment.

HQ this year is the Dusty Miller Inn on Burnley Road, Mytholmroyd. HX7 5LH. Located on north side of Burnley Road, almost opposite the junction with Cragg Road (B6138). Car park is to the rear – result board and drinks will be here – return body number to bar.

Phone reception at the top of the hill is poor, so times may have to be brought down.

V9916 – Course details:

Cragg Vale (B6138) runs from the A646, Burnley Road, Mytholmroyd, to join the A58, Rochdale Road, at Blackstone Edge.

Start on Cragg Road, Mytholmroyd (B6138), approx. 0.5 miles south of railway bridge, at telegraph pole no.2, adjacent to entrance to Townson & Thornber (Oils & Lubricants). Proceed south on B6138, through Cragg Vale, to Finish at southern end of wooden fence over drain, on lefthandside of road, and opposite wooden signpost for Whiteholme Reservoir, and Pennine Way, approx 0.5 mls north of junction with A58. (4.812 mls).

Gearing: The steepest part of the climb is the 1-in-10 section round the bends in Cragg Village. The remainder is a long steady climb up to the top of the moors. Geared bikes are recommended with gears in the range 60-120”. The last couple of miles can be quite fast with the wind in the right direction. The hill can be ridden comfortably on a TT machine.

TAKE CARE:

(1) through Cragg Village as there are often a number of parked cars – on both sides of the road.

(2) when descending the hill back to the HQ – a fair speed can be attained and there are a number of pot-holes, especially through Cragg Village

Event is Open to members of all CTT affiliated clubs. It is a counting event for YCF SpoCo, and Points Competition, and the Yorkshire Hill Climb Points Competition. Cragg Vale is the longest continuous ascent in England (over 5 miles) - length of climb used  is 4.81 miles, average gradient 3.4%.
