Description

Event HQ: Crich Stand for signing on. Numbers: Will be issued when you sign on. At the start: Please avoid disturbing residents in the vicinity of the start, do not obstruct the road. No helpers' cars in the area. Please do not obstruct the Cliff Inn car park or the Crich Tramway Museum entrance. Do not warm up on the course after the event has started. In the interests of your own safety, Cycling Time Trials and the Event Promoters strongly advise that you wear a hard shell helmet that meets an internationally accepted safety standard. This event has taken a lot of time and effort to organise in conjunction with the Mercian Regiment and we would like this hill climb to become an annual event. We can only achieve this if we ensure that the Memorial and its surrounding land and Crich village in general, is respected. In order for this event to continue yearly, we have to get this right. So please adhere to the following simple rules: Gentlemen please use the toilets provided – ie do not go behind bushes or the stand either on the stand’s land or elsewhere outside in Crich. At no point should you ride your bikes on the grass. Please pick up all your litter. No bad language please. Please do not lean your bike against monuments or ‘memorial’ seats or plaques. Do not distract the time keepers. Please consider other drivers, cyclists and pedestrians at all times in the local area. This is a non-profit making event and is run to promote cycling as a sport and also raise monies for, and awareness of, the Mercian Regiment. Under 12s: After the main event the Under 12yr olds will start from the gate to the top—I hope you will be able to stay to give them your support and encouragement. There will be certificates for all finishers in this event and a small prize for the fastest U12. Under 12s will not pay an entry fee but we ask if they could make a £2 donation to the Stand Fund. Parking: There is ample parking in the Memorial grounds so if you are bringing your car please pay the relevant parking charge and park in a considerate manner to enable maximum cars. Please ensure you use the top car park and please do not try and scrimp by parking at the bottom. You may be moved on as the lower area needs to be kept clear of vehicles. The charge is solely for the benefit of the Stand upkeep and Mercian Regiment. Refreshments: There will be refreshments at the Tea Room, 150yds from the top. Free tea to all riders on production of their numbers. All proceeds for the benefit of the Memorial Fund. The Tea Room also sells Mercian merchandise, please don’t be shy and dip into your pocket. Thank you: On a personal note, Chris Storer had recognised the potential of this climb for many years but it was only in 2013 that he had the time and opportunity, through South Pennine Road Club, to make it a reality. 2013 and last year were resounding successes and Chris would be extremely proud and pleased everyone enjoyed the event so much. Sadly Chris died during a time trial event early last year and the Hill Climb has been named in his honour and we all at South Pennine Road Club hope his legacy will endure. He was a true team player, motivator, mentor and gentleman. He is greatly missed. Finally, a big thank you to all at South Pennine Road Club, The Mercian Regiment and the Crich Stand Warden and his wife, all the sponsors who have contributed so generously and all the riders, marshals and time keepers who have made this event possible.
