Headquarters
Plympton Sports Centre, adjacent to Ridgeway School, Moorland Rd Moorland Rd, Plymouth PL7 2RS, will be open from 0430. Ladies and Men’s Changing Rooms are available, as well as numerous toilets and showers. Strictly no bicycles or shoes with cleats to worn, in the hall. Please do not shout, as residents nearby will still be asleep. Do not leave valuables unattended. The HQ is less than 2 miles from the A38, follow signs for Plympton and head for the town centre.
Parking
There is limited parking within the Sports Centre complex; however, there is numerous ample free parking
provided in the various free public car parks, which are situated less than a 2 minute walk from the HQ. Please
ensure your vehicle is secured when you are not in attendance.
Numbers and Signing On
Riders are to sign on when arriving at the HQ. Arm and body numbers will be issued, and are to be worn in conjunction with Regulation 16. Any late instructions will be available at this point.
Rear Lights
It is recommended that a working rear light, either flashing or constant, is fitted to the machine in a position visible to following road users and is active whist the machine is in use.
Rider Safety
Cycling Time Trials and the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Cycling Association strongly advise that all competitors wear a hardshell helmet that meets an accepted safety standard. This is compulsory for Under 18s. All competitors must abide by the highway code. Keep your heads up. Safety is not a dirty word!
Directions from HQ to Start
Turn Right out of HQ, then immediately take first left at mini roundabout. Proceed uphill through town for approximately ¾ mile. At second roundabout take 2nd exit (straight over) and continue for ½ mile to third roundabout. Take 2nd exit (turning right) and right again at traffic lights.* This is the slip road to proceed onto the A38 heading westbound. Once entered, you are committed and will not be able to turn around. Continue on dual carriageway for ¼ mile until arrival at the start in the lay-by on left. Allow 10-15 minutes from HQ to start.
* If warming up on the roads, suggest turning left prior to the traffic lights. This road runs adjacent to the course road and continues for just over a mile leading to a T-Junction. It will be quiet enough to turn here.
Mileage Boards
Will be at 25 miles. Intermediate times will be taken at 25.5 miles.
Return to HQ
On finishing, help yourself to one bottle of water (situated by mini roundabout). Please discard any rubbish and empty plastic bottles into the provided bin. Continue onwards to T junction. Take left, (straight on watching for traffic approaching from the right. Continue on this road until it merges once again with A38 DC. Be aware that road traffic will start to build as the morning progresses. Continue on DC for ½ mile, take slip road left (signposted Plympton). At T Junction take right across bridge and through traffic lights, retracing route back to HQ.
Return Race Numbers
On return to HQ,
ensure you remove cycling footwear before entering the building. Take numbers
to refreshment area, where exchange will result in one free hot drink
Refreshments
Will be provided by volunteers from the 10th Devonport Scout Group, where tea, coffee and a range of cakes will be made available for all competitors to purchase for a small fee. All proceeds will go directly towards their funds, vital for youth organisations such as these, Please support.
Presentation of Awards and Prizes
The Guest of Honour, Brigadier David Evans OBE Royal Marines, President of the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Cycling Association, will present prizes to all award winners. This will take place at approximately at 1100.
