Alton Cycling Club was formed in 1878, and still provides a welcoming and safe environment for the enjoyment and promotion of cycling in the Alton Area. Membership spans all ages and genres of cycling activities, definitely including social ones as well!
Whether you want to race in time trials or on the road, or simply cycle socially with likeminded individuals to take in the beautiful local countryside, Alton CC provides an excellent environment with a wealth of experience from its members.
Alton CC enjoys the sponsorship of Owen’s Cycles, Clear Signal, Everyone Active, Triple fff Brewery and Hi-Tech Heating. Owens Cycles has shops in four Marks and Petersfield and offers discounted purchase of cycling equipment for members. Owen is a cyclist himself and former national BMX rider.
Alton CC promotes both Club and Open Time Trial events over varying distances, including a weekly 10 or 25 throughout the season; Alton CC is affiliated to the CTT (UK body for time trialing). We have numerous trophy competitions for varying distances and combinations, and details of club events can be found on the website. Alton CC is affiliated to British Cycling (UK body for road racing).
Depending on membership appetite, during winter months, Alton CC also hires the indoor velodrome at Calshot Activities centre, where track sessions are run with a qualified coach, sessions culminating in a friendly “Track Champion” cup competition.
Group Club Rides
Sunday rides go from the Alton Butts at 9 am and usually cover 50 – 60 miles, and occasionally longer, with coffee (and cake!) halfway, and a pub finish for those inclined. There are normally three Sunday Groups, a club ride, a medium pace ride (13-15 mph average) and a faster pace ride(16+ mph average).
Club nights are on Mondays, twice a month and are held at the French Horn, The Butts, Alton. There is a short ride on Monday evenings starting at 6:30pm from either the Butts or Anstey Park - all are welcome to come along and meet Alton CC members.
