Riders can set an early benchmark time for the season during several 10-mile events taking place across the country this weekend.
The VTTA Yorkshire ‘Ice Breaker’ 10-mile event on Saturday afternoon has attracted a large field of over 100 competitors across a host of categories.
Charlie Tanfield (Saint Piran) was unbeaten in three open time trials last season and will start as scratch man in the early season test.
Spindata predicts a comfortable win for Tanfield but a close battle behind with
Joe Shillabeer (05/03) and Euan Adam (Durham City Velo) amongst those in contention.
A strong junior field are also due to battle on the out and back Yorkshire course near Boroughbridge, which is predicted to be led by Team Bottrill duo Toby Bush and Ben Williams.
Jemil Tokdemir (Spectrum Racing) is amongst the road bike competitors, while Spindata predicts veteran Angela Hannon-Flaherty (Seacroft Whs) to challenge for the women’s event.
Other categories include a two-up team time trial, tricycles, steel frame bike and fixed wheel.
The following day junior rider Finlay Tarling (Willebrord Wil Vooruit) is set to head a competitive field in South Wales at the Bynea CC 10.
Tarling previously held the 10-mile competition record for a juvenile of 18-15 and is predicted by Spindata to take victory.
Will Roberts (Saint Piran) is riding his first open time trial since 2018 and could provide an unknown challenge.
Meanwhile, fellow junior Dylan Sage (Evolution Racing Academy) is expected to compete for overall honours along with seasoned veteran Chris Jones for hosting club Bynea Cycling Club).
Spindata predicts junior Mathys Venter (Cardiff Ajax CC) to head the road bike category, while veteran Stephanie Waring (Tenby Aces CC) is amongst the women’s field.
The Exeter Wheelers sporting event over 17 miles will provide a tough early season test for competitors.
The Margaret Baker Memorial event includes two out and back laps including the climb up Four Firs.
Sam Wordley (Royal Navy & Royal Marines CA) is set to open his campaign in the time trial event.
Spindata predicts Aidan King (FTP (Fulfil the Potential RT) to clinch the road bike category after winning the Severn RC 12.5 earlier this month.
Chantel Coetzer (Redbridge CC) is predicted to lead the women’s field in the early season test.
Course record holder Lewis Wake (Team Kirkley Cycles) starts as scratch man in the Border City Wheelers hilly event on 13.5 miles outside Penrith.
Wake holds a benchmark time of 28-38 and is predicted to win by Spindata in a slower time of 29-22.
The Kettering CC early season hilly time trial over a 20-mile loop also provides a testing course and some intriguing battles.
George Fox (George Fox Cycling Solutions) won five open events last season and will be looking to open his account for 2024 in Northamptonshire.
However, he faces competition in the form of veteran Matthew Bottrill (Team Bottrill), while under-23 rider Oliver Searle (Team Enable - M.I. Racing) is amongst the road bike competitors.
Spindata predicts Victoria Shipley (enDuRo team) to head the women’s event.
