WITH just a week until the prestigious National 25-mile Championships takes place competitors will be looking to hone their form this weekend.
The VTTA East Mids 25 on Saturday afternoon takes place on the fast A25/34 course near Nottingham and has attracted a big field.
After winning the National 100 and 50 earlier this season a trio of crowns is on the cards for Adam Duggleby (ADDFORM Vive Le Velo) next weekend.
The Leeds-based rider starts as last man on the A25/34 looking for his sixth open time trial victory of the season.
Spindata predicts Duggleby to clock a time of 48-18 and to be pushed by veterans Richard Oakes (Team Ohten Aveas) and David Mead (Team Lutterworth Cycle Centre).
Denish Burrows (AeroCoach) will battle for honours in the women’s event, when she is due to compete against Jen Clegg (Team Bottrill) amongst others.
A stellar field will be hoping for good weather conditions when they line up on Saturday evening for the Wigan Whs 10 on the L1015 Levens course.
Scratch rider Thomas Brazier (HUUB Wattshop) is due to ride a road bike and will have to pull out all the stops for overall victory.
Veteran Chris Smart (GTR - Return To Life P/B Streamline) is an early starter but is predicted to provide the challenge along with Grant Bigham (HUUB WattShop) and David Parkin (Velotik Racing Team).
Junior rider Joe Cosgrove (Anexo Group Race Team) could also be pushing for a podium spot. Spindata could not separate Brazier and Smart who are both predicted to finish in 19-03.
Keri Parton (Team Boompods) has been on good form this season and is predicted to lead the women’s field.
Veteran rider Deborah Moss (Springfield Financial Racing Team) is set to provide a close challenge for Parton.
In Scotland a large field are preparing for Sunday’s St Christopher’s CC 25 taking place on an out and back course to Port Glasgow.
GTR - Return To Life P/B Streamline team-mates Douglas Watson and Chris Smart are set to battle for victory.
Watson starts as last man and Spindata predicts that the veteran rider will post a time of 50-27 a single second quicker than Smart.
Lorna Breetzke (Vanelli-Project GO) is favourite for the women’s event and meets the likes of Patricia Baird (Ecosse Performance Cycling Coaching) and Lorna Todd (Ayrodynamic Triathlon Club).
The Manchester Bicycle Club 25 on Sunday morning has also attracted a competitive field with bragging rights ahead of next week’s National 25-mile Championships on the line.
Veteran Simon Wilson (HUUB WattShop) is the first rider away and could provide the surprise package.
Adam Duggleby (ADDFORM Vive Le Velo) will be hoping for a weekend double and is predicted to take victory by Spindata in 47-24.
David Parkin (Velotik Racing Team) and Alexander Royle (Manchester Bicycle Club) will be amongst the challengers.
Hill climb season is also approaching and Andy Nichols (Team Lifting Gear Products) starts as last man in Sunday’s Sitwell Cycling Club event on the Reservoir Road climb.
Amongst his competitors will be Jonathan Allen (University Of Birmingham Cycling Club) and Tom Parsons (Team Enable - M.I. Racing – McCann).
Under-23 rider Erin Avill (Storey Racing) is the last woman start and will compete against Yvonne Twelvetree (Sheffield Triathlon Club) and others.
