TURVEY BEATS SIMMONDS

With one week to go before the RTTC National 100-mile Championships several of the contendors were in action at the weekend. Defending Women's champion Hayley Simmonds (AeroCoach) settled for the Belper BC 25-mile time trial where she came up against Anna Turvey (Tyneside Vagabonds) who got the better of Simonds, a 51-04 beating the British Cycling Time Trial Champion by 54 seconds. Turvey it will be remembered medalled in the `50` and `25` Championships back in 2013.

The Men's event fell to Stephen Irwin (North Lancs RC), 47-06, ahead of Andy Jackson (SSLL RC), 47-15, another of the `100` riders. The Yorkshire CF `50` saw Keith Murray (drag2zero) and Jonathan Wears (SSLL RT) fill the top two spots with their respective 1-46-59 and 1-47-22 while Christina Murray (Glasgow Green CC) added to the family's haul to take the woman's award with a 2-12-38.

Alastair Wareham added to SSLL RT's 2016 haul with first place in the Huddersfield Star Wheelers hilly `10`, a 21-58 putting him 16 seconds clear of runner up James Rix (Crawley Wheelers) with Team Swift's Richard Dean a further one second back. Best woman was Rachael Mellor (Holmfirth CC) with a 26-49.

ARTIC-TACX PREPARE FOR `24`

Jonathan Shubert, now in Arctic-Tacx RT colours, took the Finsbury Park CC `50` ahead of the Clarke's Luke and Ross of TMG-Horizon CC) with a 1-46-21 beating Luke by 26 seconds and Ross by 29. At the end of the month Shubert joins team mates Tim Bayley and defending champion Michael Broadwith to ride the National 24-hour Championship.

Elsewhere Stephen Lewis (Rock and Roll CC) won the VC Cumbria `25` by one minute from Richard Bickley (Border City Wheelers) with his 51-34; Mark Strang (Breeze Bikes RT) handed out a 1-31 beating to runner up Richard Lilleker (Cleveland Wheelers) with a 57-27 in the Gosforth RC `25`;Dean Robson (Nopinz) carried on his winning ways this week heading for Wales and the Cardiff 100 Miles Road CC's `25` which he won with a 50-37 to Anthony Jones's (Bynea CC) 51-27.
