Some of the country’s top riders are heading to Nottinghamshire on Sunday as the National Team Time Trial Championships is staged by VC Long Eaton.

The 27.1-mile course near Gunthorpe uses the A46 north and south and has attracted 20 of the best trios of riders including both Ribble Weldtite Pro Cycling and CAMS Racing – although both those teams have different line-ups.

Simon Wilson is the only member of last year’s successful Ribble team, and he is joined this time by Oliver Peckover and Zeb Kyffin with Jacob Tipper as reserve.

And defending women’s champions CAMS Racing have Maddie Leech, Becky Storrie and Katie Scott down to ride, with Danielle Shrosbree as their reserve.

Elsewhere on Sunday it’s the Sportzmad 25-mile event on the fast R25/7 course near Usk in Monmouthshire.

According to national ranking system Spindata it will be a close-run thing, with top ranked being Owen Burgess (UF Rowe and King), but not far behind, Anthony Jones (VMCC) and Ben Jones (Cycle Specific) are expected to challenge, as well as Team Echelon’s Stuart Day.

And juvenile Finlay Tarling (Flanders Color Galloo Team) can’t be discounted either!

Kate Allan

Newly-crowned VTTA Women’s National 50-Mile Champion Angela Carpenter (a3crg) is down to ride too, as well as Hafren CC’s Emma Serjeant who was fastest at last weekend’s Mid-Shropshire Wheelers 50.

In Norfolk it’s the Great Yarmouth CC 25 near Stalham, where Harley Matthews (DAP CC) will be hoping to make it two out of two for his season so far following victory in the VC Norwich 25 last weekend.

Joe Skipper (Team Skipper) could well challenge him, but without a ride to his name in open time trials so far this term, it’s wide open.

High Wycombe CC’s 25-mile event on Sunday uses the H25/2 at Marlow in Buckinghamshire, where Mark Thomas (Bigfoot CC) is last man off.

Also keep an eye out for Kate Allan (Team Bottrill) who is not only expected to be fastest female but may also leave several of the male entrants in her wake.

Saturday’s events include the Lancashire Road Club evening 10 on the popular Garstang course in Cumbria, where Richard Bideau (Pendle Forest CC) is last off and tipped to win.

And a big win is expected for Paralympic ace and prolific time trial winner Adam Duggleby (Chapeau! Vive le Velo) at the City Road Club Hull 25 near Gilberdyke in East Yorkshire, with Spindata predicting a time of 48-10 and a win by more than seven minutes.

His team-mate Fiona Sharp is expected to be top of the female riders.

Also on Saturday it’s the Eastern Counties CA 50-Mile Championship near Cambourne in Cambridgeshire.

Twickenham CC’s Liam Maybank is last man off and one of several riders in with a shout of victory including John Wingfield (Team HUUB) who won the ECCA 25-Mile Championship two weeks ago.

Jennifer George (The Independent Pedaler-Nopinz) is fastest female on paper for the event.
