The first national honours of the season will be won this Sunday when the inaugural RTTC National Road Bike Championship takes place.
Over 100 riders are set to compete on the 25-mile out-and-back course on the A46 in Nottinghamshire with the men’s, women’s, and junior crowns up for grabs.
There will be no tri-bars, disc wheels or aero helmets in sight at the road bike championships.
Jordan Peacock (Spirit BSS) starts as scratch man after winning the National Circuit Championships’ road bike category last season.
He will face tough competition from Phil Williams (Team Bottrill) who finished runner-up in the National 50 last season.
Among the other contenders are Alex Pritchard (WattShop) and veteran Keith Dorling (Team Bottrill) who has already been in action this season.
Alice Lethbridge (Drag2Zero) will be the last woman starter after finishing sixth in the National 10 last year.
Competition could come in the form of Team Kirkley Cycles duo Rachel Brown and Joanne Rea along with Eva Callinan (AWOL O’Shea Worx) and others.
Abbey Thompson (Stonham Barns Park – SYRT) takes on Sophie Heighton (Ferryhill Wheelers) in the girls’ event while Oliver Sewell (Beeston Cycling Club) is up against Jamie Bretton (Stonham Barns Park – SYRT) in the boys’ event.
Starting a busy weekend of events is the Yorkshire Cycling Federation 10 on Saturday on the A168 between Boroughbridge and Wetherby.
David Brearley (Chapeau! Vive Le Velo) was part of the winning Sheffrec CC two-up team last weekend.
However, he will take on two-up partner John Brearley (Squadra RT) who won the Yorkshire Cycling Federation 10 on the same course last year.
Veteran Helen Goldthorpe (Otley CC) starts as last woman and will have to beat Rebecca Dawes (Racescene Female Development Academy) and Maddie Leech (CAMS Racing) amongst others.
A field of 90 riders will be hoping to get their seasons off to a fast start in Saturday’s Eastern Counties CA 10 on the A11 near Cambridge.
Veteran Paul Pardoe (Peterborough CC) starts as scratch man having won four events last season including clocking a time of 18-33 on the E2/10 last June.
Amongst his challengers will be 6AM Cycling team-mates Jonny Allen and Sam Brown.
Mathilde Pauls (1904RT) is the final female starter, taking on veterans Kirsty McSeveney (...a3crg), Louise Robinson (Essex Roads CC) and Jackie Field (CC Ashwell) along with others.
Professional rider Harry Tanfield (Ribble Weldtite Pro Cycling) will be the rider to beat at Sunday’s Cleveland Wheelers Sporting 21.7-mile event.
Tanfield won two events from three open time trials last season but will face team-mate Jack Rees.
Veteran Marcel Schubert (Darlington Cycling Club) also begins his season at the north-east event after winning 11 events last year.
Under-23 Maddie Leech (CAMS Racing) is the last woman starter and taken on Annabel Sill (Fietsen Tempo) and Lauren Watson (Team Boompods) amongst a strong women’s field.
