The National 12-Hour Championship took centre stage last weekend, with CC Breckland promoting another successful event on the Attleborough circuit.
Victory went to Kim Barfoot-Brace and Tim McEvoy after close battles, with the provisional results showing ties for second spot in both the men’s and women’s events.
Barfoot-Brace, the 40-year-old Bath CC rider, covered 278.49 miles to take the women’s title, while 43-year-old Bodmin-based McEvoy (FTP Fulfil the Potential Racing) covered 314.18 miles.
Richard Sharp (Chapeau! Vive le Velo) and Tom Hutchinson (Team Bottrill) were tied for second with distances of 312.18, while in the women’s event Lisa Davis (Drag2zero) and Joanna Cebrat (Bury Clarion CC) both covering a provisional 263.51 miles.
“With a 12-hour event the race doesn’t really start until a long way in,” explained McEvoy. “So I knew I would be OK if I just stayed calm and kept going.”
And an emotional Barfoot-Brace, who is now the second fastest woman ever after overhauling Beryl Burton’s best, said: “I was riding to raise money in memory of a good friend who died this year, the Natasha Lewis Foundation. She encouraged me to do my first 12-hour last year, and the foundation is raising money to support athletes in the Bath area to fulfil their dreams.”
Meanwhile, the Hounslow and District Wheelers 100-mile event was won by Mark Smith (Crawley Wheelers) and Marianne Holt (Fareham Wheelers) on Sunday.
Holt clocked 4-11-05 for the course near Lower Froyle giving her the women’s win by 28-55 from Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers‘ Louisa Cooper, and 47-year-old Smith covered the distance in 3-37-12 to win by 5-30 from Redmon CC rival Eddie Allen.
Over in Wales David Medhurst and Claire Hann were fastest male and female at the Cardiff 100 Miles RCC 50-mile event on Sunday.
Medhurst clocked 1-45-11 to win by just 13 seconds from Anthony Jones (VMCC), while Hann’s time of 1-58-16 gave the Bristol and District Tri rider the women’s win by just over three minutes from Hannah Saitch (Whittlefit Performance).
Over the same distance, Jack Levick (Rose Race Team) won the Congleton CC 50 on Saturday in a time of 1-46-03, while fastest female was Keri Parton (Pro Vision RC) with 2-04-26.
Levick was just 46 seconds quicker than runner-up Ben Stead (3RT), while Parton took the women’s win by just 13 seconds from Lucy Rogers (Congleton CC).
In Scotland Kyle Gordon (RT 23) overcame unfavourable conditions to set a new course record at the Kennoway Road Club 10 near Freuchie, his time of 18-47 giving him victory by almost two minutes, while fastest female was Sonya Drummond (Dundee Thistle).

And in Cornwall Conrad Moss (Primera-TeamJobs) secured a third consecutive victory at the Giant Helston 25-mile time trial near Newquay, while Hannah Rainger (Plymouth Corinthian CC) won the women’s event.
Rainger’s time of 1-02-04 gave her the win by 20 seconds from Martina Geraghty (Penzance Wheelers), while Moss clocked 49-56 to beat Donald Brook (Mid-Devon CC) second by 36 seconds.
