The Welsh Hill-Climb Championship takes place on the Tumble near Abergavenny on Sunday, with many of the top contenders for the National title in two weeks due to ride.
Defending Welsh Championship title holder Ed Laverack (SwiftCarbon Pro Cycling) returns for more, while behind him 2017 champion Dan Evans (ASSOS Equipe UK) will be aiming to improve on second spot last year.
Reigning national champion Andrew Feather (Champion System UK) is off just before them, while others to look out for include in-form Richard Gildea (Didcot Phoenix CC) and Richard Bussell (AeroCoach).
Top women include Rebecca Richardson (Brother.UK Fusion), Jess Evans (ASSOS Equipe UK), Lucy Lee (VC Melyd) and Joanne Jago (Performance Cycles).
Elsewhere, the classic Bec CC and Catford CC hill-climbs have attracted riders from across the country, with Sunday’s races pitting many of the favourites for National Championship glory do battle.
The Catford CC event on the 700-yard Yorks Hill takes place first near Goathurst Common with the first rider off at 9.30am.
Second last year, Ewan Tuohy (Dartford RC) is last man off at noon, but others before him include the in-form Calum Brown (B38-Cycles in Motion), as well as James Hayward (Woolwich CC).
The women’s field includes Rosamund Bradbury (Sigma Sports) as well as Nicola Soden (Datalynx-Paranesis Cycling).
Many of the same riders will be crossing over to White Lane in Titsey for the afternoon’s Bec CC event, while the women’s field for the women’s event is strengthened by the addition of national 10-Mile champion Joscelin Lowden (The Independent Pedaler).
In Derbyshire, the Bolsover and District CC stage a hill-climb at Palterton, using the 1,475-metre Carr Lane as the course.
Former national champion Adam Kenway (Vitus Pro Cycling) is last man off, while in-form veteran Emilie Verroken (Maxx RT) is the pick of the women.
Hinton Hill in Somerset is the venue for Bath CC’s hill-climb on Sunday, with Glyndwr Griffiths (73 Degrees Bicycles) last man off.
Elsewhere, Houghton CC are holding a one-kilometre climb of Quarrington Hill near Durham, while in Devon City Cycle Couriers have an event on the Jennycliff course.
Saturday’s events include the Holme Valley Wheelers climb of Holm Moss near Holmfirth, where reigning national champion Andrew Feather is in action, while earlier in the day there is the Huddersfield Star Wheelers event on nearby Jackson Bridge.
And in Scotland, GTR Return to Life are hosting an event on Auchenlodment Road, and the East Sussex CA have an event on Firle Bostal.
