Both the male and female 2018 champions return to Abergavenny to defend their titles at the Welsh 50-Mile Championships on Sunday morning.
Conrad Moss (NOPINZ) and Stephanie Post (Team Bottrill) are both down to tackle the R50/1b course in South Wales, but face some stiff opposition in their bid to add another crown.
As well as Moss Welsh 100-Mile Champion Chris Gibbard (Bynea CC) is down to ride, while in the women’s event Michelle Lee (PDQ Cycle Coaching) and Crystal Spearman (Born to Bike) are down to ride.
Elsewhere, the Lea Valley CC 30-mile event near Ugley in Essex has a field led by Colin Ward (Essex Roads CC), while the Epsom CC 25 at Bentley in Hampshire has attracted a full field with James Boyman (Hoops Velo) the last rider off.
Further north, the Team Sportslab 10 in East Yorkshire has a field including Keith Murray and his son Ellis (Drag2zero), as well as Alex Royle (Manchester BC), while the female entrants include Fiona Sharp (Team Swift) and the promoting club’s Karen Taylor.
And in Scotland the Scottish VTTA are holding a 15-mile event near Stirling.
In hill-climbing, defending national champion Andrew Feather (Champion System UK) is down to ride the Kingston Wheelers climb of Leith Hill on Saturday, a 1,570-yard hill near Forest Green.
Blaydon CC’s Marcus Cram continues his build-up to the national title race with two rides this weekend. He tackles the Cestria CC climb of Peth Bank near Lanchester on Saturday before the Sunderland Clarion event on Sunday on Silverhills near Lamesley.
The Cestria CC event has a field of women which includes Lucy Lee (VC Melyd) and Hannah Farran (Team Boompods), while on Sunday Farran has competition for the women’s prize at the Sunderland Clarion event from multiple national champion and road pro Hayley Simmonds (AeroCoach).
In Kent James Hayward (Woolwich CC) is last rider off in the Woolwich CC climb of Hollingbourne Hill, while in West Sussex Blazing Saddles are holding a climb on Knight’s Hill on Sunday.
Withington Wheelers have a strong field for their half-mile climb of Peaslows Hill near Chapel on le Frith. Former national champion Adam Kenway (Vitus Pro Cycling) is last man off, while before him are B38-Cycles in Motion riders including Calum Brown, Kieran Wynne-Cattanach and Andy Nichols.
The event also has a strong entry for the women’s event, with Rebecca Richardson (Brother.UK Fusion) and Lucy Lee (VC Melyd).
And on Saturday GTR-Return to Life are staging a climb on Lyle Hill, Gourock, in Scotland. The promoting club’s own Chris Smart and Douglas Watson are among the top names taking part there.
