The roads south of Dorking in Surrey play host to the East Surrey Hardriders 29.9 on Sunday, as Dorking CC host this year’s edition of the popular early season event.
Starting near Leigh, the event gives riders a challenging anti-clockwise loop as they head up to the outskirts of Reigate, across to Dorking, and down through North Holmwood, South Holmwood, Beare Green and Kingsfold to the northern edge of Horsham before turning back north through Rusper and Newdigate to the finish.
More than 100 riders have entered the event, with 72 choosing to ride the time trial category and 35 tackling the road bike category.
Last year’s winner of the time trial category, Liam Maybank (Twickenham CC) returns to defend his crown, as does fastest female Angela Carpenter (a3crg).
Maybank has already been in action this season but is looking for his first win of the year, having placed second in both the Redhill CC sporting 18 and the Kingston Wheelers sporting 13.6 in February.
He will be challenged for the win by Simon Mcnamara (South Downs Bikes) as well as Mark Smith (Crawley Wheelers) who won the Sussex CA hilly 25 last weekend.
Angela Carpenter has been in good form so far this season with two wins last weekend, but she will likely be challenged by national champion Alice Lethbridge (Drag2zero).
Elsewhere, the Cleveland Wheelers sporting 21 in North Yorkshire also has categories for road bikes and time trial machines.
The T211 Stokesley course is a testing circuit which has attracted 90 riders including Philip Graves (NOPINZ), Keith Murray (Drag2zero), and Shaun Tyson (Ribble Pro Cycling).
In Suffolk, CC Sudbury are staging a 22-mile event near Lavenham, with Stuart Fairweather (Team Velovelocity) the last man off. Others who may feature include Lloyd Chapman (Plomesgate CC).
David Janes (Wheels of Dorset) is last man off in the testing Gillingham and District Wheelers 19-mile event in Somerset on Saturday.
And also on Saturday is the Circuit of Ingleborough promoted by Pendle Forest CC in North Yorkshire.
The host club’s own Richard Bideau is the last man off, while others who will be targeting the podium include Hayden Allen (THRE Datawolves) and Phil Williams (Liverpool Phoenix CC)
