2017 winner Lloyd Chapman (Plomesgate CC) is the last man off in a full field of 120 riders for the classic North Road CC hardriders 25-mile time trial in Hertfordshire on Sunday.
With the 2018 event cancelled because of ice on the course, riders are all the more keen to tackle this year’s event which looks set to go ahead without the freezing temperatures that left so many disappointed 12 months previously.
The runner-up last time it was run in 2017, Ollie Jones (ActiveEdge RT) is back to ride again in the hope of going one better, while others to look out for include former 50-mile competition record holder Paul Hart (Southend Wheelers), Neil Lauder (Arctic Tacx RT) and this year’s Ely and District CC hardriders TT winner Felix Barker (ActiveEdge RT).
Six women have entered the event, and it looks set to be a two-way battle for the win between reigning National Junior 25-mile Champion Elizabeth Marvelly (Liv AWOL) and Amy Pritchard (Giant Camden Team Liv).
Elsewhere, Andover Wheelers are promoting a 24-mile event on Sunday, with categories for both road bikes and time trial machines.
In fact the majority of riders are taking part in the road bike category of the hardriders event, which uses the P614 course near Ludgershall in Wiltshire and starts at 9am.
John French (Oxford City RC) is the last man off in the road bike category, while in the time trial event Kirsty Mcseveney (a3crg) is the last rider to go, at 10.11am.
In Gloucester, Salt and Sham CC have a 10-mile time trial on Saturday, which has attracted 59 riders to the U102 near Rangeworthy. Last year’s winner Josh Griffiths (Bikestrong-KTM) is among the entries for 2019 too.
Other Saturday events include the Rossendale Road Club hilly 11-mile event near Bolton-by-Bowland in Lancashire, where Richard Bideau (Pendle Forest CC) is the last man off.
Others to look out for include Richard Bickley (Border City Wheelers) as well as last year’s runer-up Fraser Martin (Saint Piran).
Over the border near Broxton in Cheshire is the Chester Road Club 14-mile event, also on Saturday.
As well as the North Road hardriders and the Andover Wheelers events on Sunday, there is also the Severn Road Club 25 near Stone in Staffordshire, and the Southdowns Bikes 33.8-kilometre event at Storrington, West Sussex.
