Forecasts of wet and windy conditions nearly caused the cancellation of the Leo RC 30-mile time trial in Cambridgeshire. But it turned out to be a near-perfect day on which six competition records and several age-related records were broken.

Stuart Travis (Team Bottrill-Vanguard) was fastest in the event at Newmarket with a time of 53-44, but he wasn’t the first rider on the day to beat Michael Hutchinson’s old record.

Gary Chambers (NOPINZ) clocked 55-09 to set a new record which would only stand for a matter of minutes before Travis powered home.

Another Team Bottrill rider, Adam Jarps broke the junior 30-mile competition record with 1-01-23, while the men’s team record was broken firstly by the NOPINZ trio of Gary Chambers, Jonathan Wears and Jon Surtees before the Team Bottrill trio of Travis, James Rix and George Evans reduced the record further.

A week after breaking the record, the Lincoln Wheelers trio of Andy Newham, Ian Pike and Dan Linstead shaved more time from the tricycle team competition record with 3-29-47.

Elsewhere, reigning national hill-climb champion Dan Evans continued his good recent form and preparation for the 2018 title race next month when he won the Leigh Premier RC climb of Sheep House Lane near Rivington, while he was also victorious in the Glossop Kinder Velo climb of the Snake Pass in Derbyshire.

Claire Swoboda (VC St Raphael) was fastest female in the Glossop Kinder Velo event.

2016 national hill-climb champion Adam Kenway (Vitus Pro Cycling) won the Reading CC two-stage hill-climb despite puncturing during the second of the climbs, while Jacintha Hamilton-Love (Dulwich Paragon CC) was fastest woman.

Zeb Kyffin and Hannah Farran were the fastest man and women at the Allen Valley Velo two-stage hill climb in Northumberland on Sunday morning.

Hannah Farran (Boompods EDCO NRG) was the fastest woman over the two stages completing her run with a combined time of 22-16. She completed the first stage of the course in 16-21 and the second in 5-54.

Zeb Kyffin (Ribble Pro Cycling) was the fastest male on the day, clocking a combined time of 16-25 after his two stages to retain his title at this event. His first stage time was 12-03 and then he completed his second in 4-21.

Hannah Riechert and Kieran Wynne-Cattanach finished top female and male in the Halifax Imperial Wheelers 0.9 mile hill climb Saturday.

The men’s category was won by Wynne-Cattanach (Team B38-Underpin Racing) after posting a time of 5-01.5 to take the victory by around 13 seconds.

The women’s category was much clearer as Hannah Riechert (Albarosa CC) powered to the win in 6-55.8, winning by 2-14 ahead of host club rider L. Dodd.

Anabell Orenz and Andrew Feather produced dominant performances to claim victory at the Chew Valley CC hill climb on Saturday morning.
