FOUR FOR BROADWITH?

We are back in Championship mode this weekend with the longest of the RTTC National Championships- the 24-hour title race, which is incorporated in the Mersey Roads Club promotion, which dates back to 1937.

All of last year’s solo medal winners return to defend, Michael Broadwith (Arctic-Tacx RT), Victor Chetta (Arctic-Tacx RT) and Jasmijn Muller (Kingston Wheelers) who were the first three in the Championship.

At the same time Muller took the women’s title ahead of Crystal Spearman (NOPINZ) and Lynne Biddulph (Born to Bike-Bridgtown Cycles). All are back for more punishment over the day-long test.

Apart from looking to keep the title after his epic success in breaking the End to End this year, Broadwith is hoping to make it his fourth win on the trot, another record.

Currently Broadwith’s best effort was in 2015 when he won with 537.35 miles, nearly four miles short of Andrew Wilkinson’s Competition Record 541.17 miles set in 2011.

Apart from the individual riders seven tandems are taking part while nine women are taking part.

The first rider sets off at 13.01 on Saturday with Broadwith last off at 14.25 behind Marcus Blagrove (Mersey Tri) and Andy Jackson (AeroCoach).

The event headquarters are at The Clubhouse Wrexham, Oak Road, Wrexham Industrial Estate, WrexhamLL139RG. The finishing circuit takes riders past HQ.
