CTT Scholarship rider Hetty Niblett sets new goals

I have been a bit delayed in writing this post, mainly because things have not gone my way recently! As I said in my previous post, I came home from Belgium to target time trials and to target the British Cycling National Time Trial however unfortunately, my entry to this race got rejected. I can only presume this was due to my lack of British cycling points from road racing, something which I did not think would be used to determine my TT ability! I was, and still am, absolutely gutted even now the event has passed! It feels so sad I did not get my chance to showcase all of the hard work, dedication and determination I put into training for this event after the disappointment of Belgium. But now it’s time to move on!

Since my last post I have had three open time trial wins and a second place so I am very happy! I have set power bests in both 25 mile time trials and 10’s so it seems my training is going well and in the right direction. The 25 I did wasn’t my favourite course, the J2/9 near Macclesfield, which really tested my ability to dig deep up all the little rises and poor road surface! I won by about a minute so that was a great feeling. Last weekend I did a TT on the D10/25 course near Wrexham. The course itself wasn’t too bad, but it was the heat that was the killer! Riding flat out in near 30 degrees with a long-sleeved skinsuit and a TT helmet on was making it feel more like 40 degrees! I was also really happy to win that TT by about a minute too.

My new goals for this season are the CTT National 25 and 10 at the beginning of August and then September, respectively. I have another local 10 mile time trial entered next weekend which I am looking forward to and then I am off to Spain! My boyfriend, Tom, is currently living and racing in Spain supported by the Dave Rayner Fund so it will be a good opportunity to refresh before the lead up to the National 25, I can’t wait!
