THE 2017 NATIONAL 10-MILE CHAMPIONSHIPS PREVIEW

Time trialling interest switches to the Lake District on Sunday when CTT North District promotes the National 10-mile title races on the A66 Cockermouth road. All three events, Men, Women and Juniors take place with Juniors  opening the day’s sport.

The man to beat looks like being Cavan Walker (Prologue RT) who took the Junior `25` honours earlier this season. He will be pushed, among others, by 2016 Silver medal winner Jake Wright (Zappi RT), Harry Buxton (THRE Datawolves RT), Adam Jarps (Manilla Cycling) and GHS 2016 Champion Joe Laverick (HMT Academy with JRT Condor) .Among the girls, Caitlin Peters (I-Team CC) looks favourite following her second place in the Junior Women’s `25`. The Juniors are off at 10.01am.

The Women follow on at 12.01pm with a terrific battle expected. Already three times a winner of the Championship Hayley Simmonds (Team WNT Pro Cycling) goes for a fourth victory. She is challenged by 2016 runner-up Anna Turvey (Tyneside Vagabonds) the powerful duo from Drag2Zero, Alice Lethbridge, who may find the short distance not to her liking having claimed the 12-hour and 100 mile titles this season, much more to her liking, and Katie Allan. the 50-mile Champion.

The big question for the Men is can they stop Daniel Bigham (Brother NRG Wattshop) claiming his fifth 2017 Championship Gold Medal? Bigham has the 25, 50, Circuit and Team Time Trial wins to his credit. Out to challenge him are Ryan Perry (Team Raleigh GAC) Matt Sinclair (Lutterworth Cycle Centre) and John Archibald (Pro Vision Cycle Clothing) to name a few. Missing from the line up is  James Gullen (JLT Condor), who has been called for duty with his team for the Tour of Britain. Bigham is now last off at 16.04pm.

The event HQ is at the Braithwaite Institute on the A66 north of Keswick where results will be displayed and refreshments will be available. Start is  just short of five miles past the HQ.
