The third of the season’s National Championships takes place at Yarm, Tyneside, on Sunday with one of the strongest Men’s fields we have seen in recent years with at least half-a-dozen possible individual winners at least in the 120-strong line up.
The Cleveland Coureurs CC promotion on behalf of the Teeside District contains most of this year’s event winners. One of the biggest attractions is Adam Duggleby (Vive le Velo) who smashed the 100-mile competition record last week with an amazing 3-16-51.
It will be interesting to see if he has recovered from that effort and how he performs against the likes of Dan Bigham (Brother NRG Wattshop), winner of the Circuit Championship and last Sunday’s Team Time Trial Championship with Charles Tanfield and Simon Wilson, Kieron Davies (drag2zero), third last year, Philip Graves (NOPINZ),plus a clutch of Team Bottrill-HSS Hire riders John Dewey, Matthew Smith, Charles Taylor, the previous `100` record holder , Josh Williams and Brett Harwood.
Add in outsiders like Josh Teasdale (Team Differdange Losch), Andy Jackson (SSLL RT) and Jonathan Schubert (Arctic Tacx RT) and its going to be an exciting event.
In the women’s event Becky Lewis (Mid Shropshire Wheelers), third in 2016 is the only one of the podium trio to return, but most interest will be centred on Alice Lethbridge (drag2zero) who broke the women’s 100-mile competition record, bringing it down to 3-42-37
. In all 31 women are listed including Bronwen Ewing (Rye & District Wheelers), Kate Allen (drag2zero), Clarice Chung (AS Test Team), Jackie Field (CC Ashwell) ,Lynne Biddulph (Born to Bike-Bridgtown Bicycles) and Louise Scupham (Team Jadan).
It’s an early start for the women, 06.34 for the first one away. The men kick off at 07.10 with Dewey last off at 09.00. Event HQ is Conyers School, Green Lane, Yarm TS15 9ET. Full start list can be found on our website.
