Description

Hi, before you enter this specific event which is the Road Bike/non aero event, make sure that you are intending to ride on a standard road bike and not a TT bike. Also, this specific road bike event is not in the YCF points series, enter the TT event for the YCF points competition. It's also likely that you won't know your 10M time for a road bike, so estimates are fine and we'll set the field based on those. I would suggest adding 2 minutes to your 10M TT time if you know that for this course.

The basic rules are:
No TT frames
No Solid disk wheels (disc brakes are allowed of course but some folks confuse the terms disk wheels with disk brakes)
No deep section wheels, 65mm is the maximum which is what many new road bikes are delivered with now anyway.
No Aero helmets, this one's harder to judge but just make sure you helmet has no visor, nor was designed to have a visor. You understand the spirit of the competition so you know what this means ;)
Skin suits are allowed though, and given that it's march then long sleeved ones are ok.
No clip on TT/Tri/Aero bars, not only are they against the rules but they are f'ugly too. If you want to use clip ons, enter the TT event or a triathlon instead.

In addition, we sought guidance at a national level and this is what they said....

The road bike criteria that the CTT board agreed for use in the Merlin Cycles Classic series and the Road Bike National Championship is as below, obviously there is no regulation covering the specification but the following is the guide we use.

• No tri bars, clip on bars or Spinaci bars

• No disc wheels. Both front and rear wheels must have a minimum of 12 spokes each. The maximum rim depth on all wheels is 65mm

• No aero helmet or a helmet that covers the ears or a helmet with a visor to be used

• Riders must not ride with their forearms resting on the handlebars at any time

So, yes, align with the spirit of the event and you'll be fine. Should be interesting to see how the roadies fare against the TT riders.

Mike
