FEATHER SMASHES RECORD TO WIN
£100 & EDWARD HADDON MEMORIAL CUP
Andrew Feather riding for Bike
Chain Ricci rounded off the road season with a storming win at the Jennycliff
Hill Climb on Sunday.
Feather completed the 0.7 mile
course in just 2 minutes and 23 seconds averaging 17.6 mph, taking 8 seconds off
the course record held by Adrian Sluman – Plymouth Corinthian CC in 2015.
The event, which was promoted
by City Cycle Couriers RT, started from Jennycliff car park and finished as the
road levels out past Staddon Heights Golf Club.
A strong field comprising of
many up-an-coming young riders and established road race winners took to the
line at one minute intervals.
The early starters set some
promising times, with one of the young challengers, Harrison Wood of Mid Devon
CC, setting the early pace with a 2 minute 42 second effort.
Team RGB Building Supplies
rider Jenny Corser also set a fine time with 3:41 to pip Martina Geragthy
(Penzance Wheelers) by 7 seconds to win the ladies title collecting £100 + tyres
for 1st ladies prize.
Off 25th was Gillingham &
District Whelers’ James Hywel Davies already a multiple road race winner this
year. Hywel Davies was one of the favourites but had to settle for 2nd place in
2:37, 14 seconds behind Feather. Rounding off the podium and also top junior
rider was Harrison Wood in 2:42. Last year’s defending champion Josh Coyne from
Okehampton CC had to settle for 4th place this year in 2:43.
