Fareham Wheelers CC rider James Copeland took victory at the Southdown Velo time trial on Sunday morning.

The event was held over an unconventional 28-mile distance around Goodwood Park, just north of Chichester.

Copeland was in fine form, stopping the clock at 1:08.26 and earning him first place in the 44-strong field.

That was Tom Pritchard of Hampshire RC, who was on the podium in second, in a time of 1:09.01, 35 seconds behind Copeland.

Veteran rider Alex Napier (Blazing Saddles) was a further 35 seconds back, cut continues his excellent for this season with another podium, coming in third.

Mathilde Pauls (Sigma Sport.co.uk) was the fastest woman in the field, clocking a time of 1:20.02, just placing her outside the top 20 overall.

However, that time was still over four minutes ahead of that of her nearest rival, Sarah Matthews of A3 CRG.

First junior was Fareham Wheelers rider Vaughan Marris, who clocked a respectable 1:20.43.
